Traditional Chinese medicine features precious treasure of Chinese traditional culture.While some scholars in the academic circle advocates that traditional Chinese medicine has lost its clinical value with the development of modern medical technology.It should be taken as a symbol of culture rather than a medical technology.Actually,traditional Chinese medicine has a lot to offer theoretically and practically in modern society.The theory of traditional Chinese medicine has contributed to inspiration and ideas for the research and development of modern drugs.The technology of traditional Chinese medicine has been applied in the front line for fighting against the outbreak during the prevention and treatment of the epidemic.And the concept of prevention diseases in traditional Chinese medicine has been widely used for body building by the public in the aspect of health care.Moreover,concepts of survival in returning to nature,great health,and a bio-psycho-social medical model,which are currently prevalent,are consistent with thoughts of traditional Chinese medicine to some extent.In addition,since the founding of the People’s Republic of China,achievements made by the communist party of China in the development of traditional Chinese medicine have also proved the social value of traditional Chinese medicine.The theory of traditional Chinese medicine was formed in the traditional agricultural society with abundant medical experiences of Chinese ancient sages and bold creation of oriental natural philosophy.During the process of its development,traditional Chinese medicine has been influenced by many factors including politics,economy and culture to some extent.Absorption of such factors has added more varieties on its development.Medical treatment concerning drug medication is a serious medical behavior,which is commonly known as adapt the remedy to the disease.However,the historical evolving tendency of using medicine has been driven by a number of factors.Until now,such traces still can be found in medical circle of China.This is the reason why prescriptions with ingredients odd in number,tonic drugs and imported drugs are quite popular."Taking history as a mirror,one can know the rise and fall." Through historical study of this phenomenon,it is valuable to reveal its inevitability.Guided by a large number of historical data on the development of traditional Chinese medicine,this study performed literature analysis and case investigation on the tendency of traditional Chinese medicine medication from the perspective of medicine itself and traditional philosophy.In this way,it reveals the mechanism of action on the trend of traditional Chinese medicine.Meanwhile,theoretical and practical defects of traditional Chinese medicine which have both affected and promoted for the trend of traditional Chinese medicine use were proposed.The traditional Chinese philosophies of Confucianism and Taoism have produced strong results in theory of traditional Chinese medicine medication.Traditional social politics,economy and culture have played a social guiding role on the trend of traditional Chinese medicine medication.This study points out that the development of traditional Chinese medicine needs not just the scientization and modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.More importantly,supports from government are essential both politically and economically.Meanwhile,prosperous culture and philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine will be promoted.This study mainly consists of seven parts.The first part presents the introduction,in which discussions on the tendency of traditional drug medication have been made concerning research background,research status and research significance.The second part defines the trend of traditional Chinese drug medication and expounds four major trends of Chinese medicine use related to historical facts of this study.The third part focuses on the exploration of inherent characteristics of TCM theory.This part associates with instructions and constraints of yin-yang and five elements paradigm on the use of traditional Chinese medicine and analyzes epistemology and methodology of traditional Chinese medicine theory.Part four analyzes causes of medication tendency from the perspective of ancient Chinese philosophy.Academic characteristics of traditional Chinese mainstream philosophical thoughts are discussed including Confucianism and Taoism.Research in this part covers practices of Confucianism in cultivating virtue and nature,Taoist alchemy for pursuing immortality,as well as a life philosophy of emulating nature of the ancient Taoist’s thought,hereby discussing the influence of traditional social philosophy on the theory of Chinese medicine use.Starting from explorations on how medication trends happened in traditional society,part five further illustrates social factors associated with politics,economy and culture and tries to clarify the guiding role that the social development has played in the theory of traditional Chinese medicine.Reflections on progresses of modern traditional Chinese medicine are presented in the sixth part,which studies the medication trend of traditional Chinese medicine in traditional society and dialectical recognitions are demonstrated on interactions between the theory of traditional Chinese medicine and the trend of drug use.The last part is the conclusion.Causes of the use trend of traditional Chinese medicine in traditional society are summarized in this part,as well as the interaction between the trend and the theory of traditional Chinese medicine.Moreover,a proposed path on how to make the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine happen is offered in this research at the level of philosophical,political,economic and educational aspects.
