A Case Study Of Frontotemporal Dementia Intervention With Music Therapy

Frontotemporal dementia(FTD)is the major degenerative dementia that causes cognitive dysfunction.With the development of the world aging population,three kinds of dementia,including Alzheimer disease(AD)and lewy body dementia(Dementia with Lewy Bodies,DLB),have been paid much attention as a common senile disease.According to the Global Alzheimer’s Disease(AD)2015 report,around 46.8 million people worldwide suffer from dementia,with an increase of 1 dementia patient every 3 seconds.The number will be increased to 120 million in 2050,which will result in a significant increase in treatment and care spending.FTD are severe behavioral and psychological symptoms caused by frontotemporal degeneration(Frontotemporal lobe degeneration,FTLD),such as apathy,depression,anxiety,executive dysfunction,attention disorder,behavioral abnormality,language dysfunction,social cognitive impairment,and orientation disorder.Gross specimens mainly show as brain atrophy,involving the frontal and/or temporal lobe atrophy.The pathogenesis is not clear up to now,and drug treatment brings no good effect.Rapid progress,difficulty to diagnose,emotional problems in the disease process,and abnormal behavior problems bring great pain to patients and caregivers.Music therapy,as a non-drug therapy,has shown its unique value in this field.It was concluded by the clinical practice of music therapy abroad that,although the brain of FTD patients was seriously damaged,the memory function of FTD patients was less damaged than that of other types of dementia patients,and the memory of music was basically intact,because of the different atrophy sites of various types of dementia.The usage of the favorite music of patients in their young age could stimulate memories,alleviate motion problems,promote cognitive function and daily living ability,and enhance the life quality.This article studies focus on the case of frontotemporal lobe dementia treatment by music therapy.The music therapy was used to intervene the treatment of FTD patients,explore the effect of music therapy on the intervention treatment of FTD patients,help FTD patients to relieve anxiety,depression,fear and other bad emotions;improve the exercise ability of FTD patients,delay the late and middle-stage FTD patients with varying degrees of muscle atrophy speed,improve patients walking,defecation and other living ability,delay the disease progress,alleviate the pain caused by various complications to patients and their families,improve the quality of life of patients,relieve the pressure of caregivers,and reduce the burden of family and society.
