| Objectives To investigate the expression of sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-type lectin-15(Siglec-15)in rectal cancers and adjuvant normal tissue as well as its relationship with clinicopathological characteristics of patients. Methods The study includes cancer and their corresponding adjuvant normal tissue specimens from 122 rectal cancer patients at Tangshan Workers’ Hospital from January to October 2019.The expression of Siglec-15 in the cancer and adjuvant normal tissue was identified by applying immunohistochemistry, and the relationships of the expression with clinicopathological factors were analyzed by statistical methods. Results 1 The expression level of Siglec-15 was significantly higher in cancers(7.541±2.921)than that in adjuvant normal tissue(1.410±1.424)(t=20.230,P<0.001).2There was a statistical correlation between the expression level of Siglec-15 in cancers and T-stage,lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)expression(P<0.05).Siglec-15 increased its expression level in T3 and T4stage(8.229±2.267)than in T1 and T2 stage(4.922±2.907)(t=6.217,P<0.000).There was no differences between T3(8.230±0.325)and T4(8.224±0.471),neither T1(3.750±1.311)nor T2(5.227±0.559)stage.The expression level of Siglec-15 in the patients with lymph node metastasis(8.268±0.381)was higher than those without lymph node metastasis(6.924±0.351)(t=2.591,P=0.011).The expression level of Siglec-15 in the patients with distant metastasis(10.400±1.284)was higher than those without distant metastasis(7.419±0.266)(t=2.273,P=0.025).The expression level of Siglec-15 was positively related to EGFR expression(t=-2.027,P=0.045).3 There was no statistically significant relationship of Siglec-15 expression in rectal cancers and patients’ gender, age, pathological gross morphology, the grade of differentiation, intravascular tumor emboli, nerve invasion, and HER-2 expression(P>0.05).Conclusions The expression level of Siglec-15 in rectal cancers was significantly higher than that in adjuvant normal tissue.Furthermore, the expression level in rectal cancers was positively related to T-stage,lymph node and distant metastasis, and EGFR expression. The findings may provide valuable information for diagnosis and prognosis in rectal cancer patients.Figure 17;Table 5;Reference 136... |
