Research On The Relationship Between The Religious Belief Of Rural Old People’ And The Meaning Of Their Life

In recent years,with the individualization of rural society,the utilitarianization of interpersonal relationships,and the increased risk of rural elderly life,the living problems of rural elderly have become an important issue that cannot be ignored.At the same time,religious belief has a great influence on the life,family and social development of the elderly in rural China.The study of the sense of life meaning of rural elderly people with religious beliefs is conducive to the study of religious beliefs in China from the level of macro research to the level of significance research,expand the theoretical scope of religious beliefs of rural elderly,and enhance the theory of religion The explanatory power of the problem.This article studies the relationship between religious belief and the sense of life meaning of the elderly in rural areas,in order to make society pay more attention to the spiritual life of the elderly,improve the quality of life of the elderly in rural areas,and promote the harmonious progress of society.This study attempts to answer the following questions through questionnaire surveys and interviews with rural elderly in J County: What is the status of religious beliefs of rural elderly in J County? What factors influence the behavior of religious choices of the elderly in rural areas? What role does religious belief play in the perception of the meaning of life of the elderly in rural my country? The study found that the religious beliefs of the elderly in rural J County showed the basic characteristics of more women,mainly ethnic minorities,low education,and no spouses.In terms of gender,age,ethnicity,marital status,education level,personal annual income,and enrollment status,there are differences in the religious beliefs and belief categories of rural elderly in J County.Through factor analysis,three common factors about the sense of meaning of life are extracted,a sense of belonging,trust and security.In general,rural elderly people have a medium to low sense of life,of which the strongest sense of belonging.Compared with the non-religious rural elderly,the rural elderly with religious belief have a higher sense of life.Compared with other types of religion,the rural elderly who believe in Christianity and Islam have a sense of belonging,trust,and security higher.Religion has an impact on the sense of meaning of life by partially satisfying the needs of the rural elderly at all levels.Religious beliefs provide rural elders with a way of cognition of the world,ease the pressure on rural elders,and provide them with spiritual comfort and a sense of meaning in life.By analyzing the research results,the author believes that religion mainly affects the sense of life meaning of the elderly in rural areas through the two mechanisms of organization and belief.The belief effect is manifested in the fact that religious belief replaces ontological security,maintains the normal operation of the family,and obtains return in the afterlife to enable the rural elderly to rebuild their confidence and gain a sense of security.The organizational effect is manifested in religious ritual activities that enable rural elderly people to gain a sense of identity,increase interpersonal communication,and gain a sense of trust and belonging.
