Study On The Economic Ethics Of The Reformists

In the late Qing Dynasty,the traditional system and rigid thought could not meet the needs of development,among which,the traditional economic ethics had become a shackle to the development of Chinese society and economy and the transition of modern times.In order to alleviate the deepening national crisis,the reformists,in the light of the growing needs of China’s national capitalist economy and referring to western modern ethical thought,to criticize and transform the traditional economic ethics represented by attaching importance to justice but not to profit,putting agriculture first and business second,government monopoly,dethroning luxury and advocating thrift,it initially constructs a new economic ethics,which includes both justice and benefit,both industry and commerce,economic freedom,degree of frugality and luxury consumption concept.First,the reformists fundamentally denied the value orientation of "valuing justice over profit" and established a reasonable legal status for people’s rational desire and profit-seeking behavior,furthermore,it puts forward the theory of "justice and profit" to provide moral and rule constraints for people’s profit-seeking behavior.Secondly,the reformists faced the aggression and stimulation of Western capitalist industry and Commerce on China’s economy and the objective needs of the development of Chinese national capitalism,it is clearly opposed to the moral judgment and value choice of "putting agriculture first and commerce last" and "emphasizing agriculture and restricting commerce",and advocates the development of capitalist industry and Commerce and the establishment of a sound and reasonable economic structure in order to realize the prosperity and strength of the country.Thirdly,after the defeat of the sino-japanese war of 1894-1895,the reformists demanded to break through the thought and mode of " westernized Chinese style",and advocated studying the political and economic experience of the West,and breaking the government monopoly and isolationism in the economic field,it advocates taking the liberalist economic ethics as the guidance,and encourages the business people to set up their own enterprises and conduct business freely.Finally,in order to adapt to and promote the productive forces and the level of social and economic development,the reformists gradually abandoned the consumption ethics of "dethroning luxury and advocating frugality" and perfected the consumption concept of "dethroning frugality and advocating luxury",this paper puts forward a new consumption ethic view of "luxury and frugality and moderation",hoping to guide people’s consumption orientation and behavior through the new consumption ethic view of modern times,and then to promote the transformation and development of economic society.The economic ethics of the Reformation regards patriotism and salvation as the value pursuit,has the ideological trend of righteousness and benefit,and the characteristics of the era of interaction between China and the West.It has played an important role in building a modern economic ethics and promoting the development of modern national capitalist economy.At present,the development of a socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics in China has important reference significance.
