Fiction Lantern is a collection of short stories written by Dazai Osamu during the war, which writing style is brighter than his early rebellion times and his later negative period.In16 stories of this album, each episode has a constant character, writer. This identity is a paradox, with beauty and ugliness, merit and evil, maturity and infantness, purity and chaos all rolled into one. However, the research for literature of Dazai Osamu mainly focused on The Setting Sun,Wing Wing’s Wife and No Longer Human, especially based on the study of decadence, death, rogue, clown spirit, sin consciousness, etc.Neither do they study the album of Fiction Lantern,or the metaphor meaning of the writer’s image. This paper try to clarify the fallacy of the "writer" image, and then dig the psychological and national metaphor behind the image of "writer",based on text method and mirror theory. In this case, through the analysis of distorted image,we will link the inward and outward national introspection, and then analyse the ambivalence over the war by Dazai Osamu. On the one hand,as a member of yamato nation,at the emperor’s call,Dazai Osamu showed his identification with the war,his self-criticism has been deviated. He was superficial to the national concerns and unable to examine the culpability of the Japanese nation in the war.On the other hand,Dazai Osamu reflected on himself with the help of the image of the "writer" in his works, showing the living state and psychological state of the "writer",demonstrating the hidden worries about war and militarism. Therefore, the image of "writer" not only reflects Dazai Osamu’s anxiety about the future of Japan during the war,but also reflects the general living and psychological state of Japanese people during the second world war, which has certain historical and social value.Dazai Osamu had seen but avoided the reality,he indulged in the negative tender of the lantern, which led to the failure of his literary redemption.
