A Study Of Conceptual Metaphor And Translation Strategy In On Building A Human Community With A Shared Future

"On Building a Human Community with a Shared Future" contains 85 lectures,speeches,talks,and questions about General Secretary Xi Jinping’s discussion on advancing the building of the community of shared future for mankind since January2013.The book deliberates deeply on such major issues as "what kind of world to build,how to build this world",which are related to the future and destiny of mankind,elaborated the background,significance,rich connotation,problems and realization methods of building the Human Community with a Shared Future.And its English version,"On Building a Human Community with a Shared Future",can more effectively convey Xi Jinping ’s socialist thought with Chinese characteristics in the new era to foreign readers,so that they can be more aware of the necessity and feasibility of building a community of shared future for mankind today.This article will use the Chinese and English versions of "On Building a Human Community with a Shared Future" as the corpus,take conceptual metaphor theory as the theoretical framework,and statistical analysis of conceptual metaphors and translation strategies of conceptual metaphors appearing in the book is carried out by combining qualitative and quantitative,description and interpretation,and comparative analysis.The study found that the proportion of human metaphor most frequently used in Chinese and English versions are,respectively,accounting for 56.14 percent and 57.79 percent overall usage of metaphors.The proportion of other conceptual metaphors in the overall use of metaphors in Chinese and English versions is 14.96% and 12.59% for engineering metaphors,9.60% and 10.57% for war metaphors,9.14% and 8.88% for travel metaphors,3.70% and 1.18% for plant metaphors,2.77% and 2.57% for family metaphors,1.64% and 1.80% for disease metaphors,1.12% and 3.66% for inanimate metaphors,0.37% and 0.52% for mechanical metaphors,0.35% and 0.1% for climate metaphors,respectively 8%,animal metaphor 0.21% and 0.26%.At the same time,thisarticle finds that the English version of " On Building a Human Community with a Shared Future " mainly adopts five translation strategies,namely,literal translation,omission,conversion,annotation and domestication of metaphor,which account for72%,17.31%,3.78%,2.15% and 4.76% of the total use of metaphor in the English version.The reason why the same conceptual metaphor is used differently in both Chinese and English versions is the use of different translation strategies,and the choice of different translation strategies is affected by factors such as culture.
