Vocabulary,phonetics and grammar are three major elements of language.Among them,vocabulary is the basis for language expression.Basic vocabulary learning is very important in middle school education,which profoundly affects the development of students’ English proficiency in the future.Therefore,how to effectively improve junior high school students’ vocabulary learning level is the key to vocabulary teaching.With the development of advanced information technology such as big data and cloud computing,smart class supported by Pad has emerged as a teaching mode in the new era.It is not only an optimization of the teaching environment,but also a breakthrough distinctive from the traditional teaching mode.In recent years,smart class has been emerging with English teaching and certainly achieved a lot.But the effectiveness of vocabulary teaching in Pad-based smart class needs further verification.The purpose of this paper is to explore and test the effectiveness of pad-based smart classroom teaching model in improving junior high school students’ vocabulary level,attempting to answer the following research questions:(1).What are the advantages of Pad-based smart class in use? a,Can vocabulary teaching in Pad-based smart class improve students’ vocabulary learning level more effectively? b,Can vocabulary teaching in Pad-based smart class help students develop learning strategies more effectively? 2.What are the shortcomings of Pad-based smart class in use?The study selects two classes from a junior high school in Shandong province to carry out a three-month teaching experiment.A Pad class is selected as an experimental class and a regular class as a control one.Through the analysis of students’ situation,teaching material and learning environment,the author designed a vocabulary teaching mode for smart class guided by smart class teaching system.In the course of the experiment,pad-based smart class is used in the experimental class,and the traditional one is carried out in the control class.After the experiment,the data is collected from vocabulary test,questionnaires,and interview,and then analyzed to address the above-mentioned research questions.After analyzing the data,the study yields the following findings.Vocabulary teaching in Pad-based smart class can more effectively improve students’ vocabulary learning level,and narrow the gap between them;It can more effectively train students’ vocabulary learning strategies,especially cognitive strategy and resource strategy.It also has some disadvantages: Some software functions are not fully used and there are insufficient vocabulary learning resources in Pad;To a certain extent,teacher and students’ concentration is distracted and their opportunities for communication are reduced.;Because of long time learning in Pad-based smart class,it may easily cause visual fatigue.The findings shed some lights on junior high school vocabulary teaching.Firstly,teachers should make full use of the functions in Pad,like micro-course production,immediate assessment and listening & speaking assessment,to improve vocabulary teaching efficiency.Then,they should focus on training students’ vocabulary learning strategies and improve students’ self-learning ability.After that,teachers should work together to explore the vocabulary learning resources,and arrange teaching time reasonably.At last,it’s important to improve teacher and students’ technology competence.At the same time,the software and hardware facilities of smart class should be upgraded.
