| With the in-depth understanding of affective factors,researchers have begun to study affective factors in English learning.Among them,learners’ negative emotions have received great attention,such as anxiety,lack of motivation,weakened motivation,and burnout etc.English learning is a long and arduous activity.In this learning process,learners may experience burnout such as emotional exhaustion and indifference.In the related research on English learning burnout and academic self-efficacy,the research on English majors has not been involved.This study aims to investigate the overall situation of students’ English learning burnout and academic self-efficacy,and how they are related,to explore whether there are differences in gender,birthplaces,grades and how academic self-efficacy can predict English learning burnout.The subjects of this study are 148 English Majors of Xinjiang University,including62 freshmen,46 sophomores and 40 juniors.The Foreign Language Learning Burnout Inventory(FLLBI)and Academic Self-efficacy Questionnaire are used for data collection.All the gathered data are processed and analyzed by SPSS 21.0.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)English majors’ English learning burnout is at a medium level.Burnout is the most prominent in the cynicism dimension.There is no significant difference in English learning burnout among students of different genders,birthplaces and grades.(2)English majors’ academic self-efficacy is at a medium level.There is a significant difference of academic self-efficacy between different genders.Male students have higher academic self-efficacy than female students.But there is no significant difference of academic self-efficacy among students of different birthplaces and grades.(3)There is a significant negative correlation between English learning burnout and academic self-efficacy.Academic self-efficacy affects English learning burnout to a certain extent and has a significant negative predictive effect on English learning burnout.That is,the higher the academic self-efficacy of English majors,the lower the English learning burnout.Among them,learning capacity variable has the best predictive power on English learning burnout.Finally,based on the research results,some feasible suggestions are put forward for the daily teaching. |
