Self-portrait is a unique type of painting,and it is a special portrait of the painter depicting himself.Through the exploration of the self-portrait art form of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the image information conveyed by the self-portrait works and the hidden self-expression behind it are analyzed,focusing on understanding the awakening of the painter’s self-consciousness,the identification of self-worth and the manifestation of self-spirit.First,through the collection,classification,induction,and clarification of the development of traditional self-portraits through a large number of texts and images.Taking the self-portraits of Ming and Qing painters as the research object,aiming at the self-portraits of the more representative painter Xiang Shengmo of the late Ming Dynasty and the painter Gao Fenghan of the Qing Dynasty,typical cases are combined with the background of the times to analyze the existence of some kind of emotion between self-portraits and the creation of self-portraits.Contact to understand their motivation and intention for creating self-portraits,and analyze the self-expression and self-hiding behind the self-portraits.Secondly,from the aspects of self-portrait sketching methods and methods and aesthetic thoughts,we compare the similarities and differences of Chinese and Western painters’ self-presentation in self-portrait sketching.Finally,through the study of the self-portrait sketches of the painters in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the current self-portrait sketches’ inspiration to the teaching of figure painting and the influence on my meticulous painting creation were considered.In contrast,the creation and practice of painting made the research of practical significance.This article goes back to the artist’s inner world by tracing back the Ming and Qing painters’ understanding of self-portraits,and explores what he thinks and thinks from what he said.The self-portraits of the painters in the Ming and Qing Dynasties showed self-idealization,metaphorism,and lyricism.They all carried the creative consciousness of the painter.They were the most direct window to study the painter’s spiritual world and an important medium to reveal the painter’s inner spiritual world.The self-portraits of the painters in the Ming and Qing Dynasties exemplified the dialogue between the painter and the self,the confrontation with the society and the exclamation of life,and had distinct ideological,social and contemporary characteristics.
