Two years after writing his autobiography "Yesterday’s World: Memories of a European",Stefan Zweig committed suicide,so this autobiography is regarded as Zweig’s detailed desperate book.In his autobiography,Zweig reviewed the past life in a sad tone, showing readers the style of an era.The prosperity and harmony in prosperous world were replaced by betrayal and sorrow in the war.Political power destroyed civilization and humanity.Eventually, death, killing and conspiracy flooded the world. The beauty of life came to an abrupt end in the face of Hitler’s tyranny.Zweig used this autobiography to say goodbye to yesterday’s world while also saying goodbye to the present world.Death is an important part of Zweig’s autobiography. The concern for death reflects Zweig’s care for life, thinking about survival and the pursuit of meaning in life. The paper is mainly divided into three parts:The first chapter is the writing of death in Zweig’s autobiography.A repressive society distorts human nature and hinders the overall development of the individual.Hypocritical social ethics leads to personal misfortune.War is a violation of human nature and cruel lives, and death in war is a victim of power politics. The hatred instigated by the Nazis killed countless Jews, and there was nowhere for Jews to escapeThe second chapter is the artistic presentation of death consciousness in Zweig’s autobiography. The death of others made Zweig realize that he could not escape the danger imposed by the external environment, and the values and ideals he pursued were therefore destroyed.Zweig combines history with literature to write death, follows the principle of authenticity, reveals the inevitability of death, and uses death to complain about the cruelty and evil of power. The third chapter is the meaning of death consciousness in Zweig’s autobiography.Based on the writer’s responsibility and morality,Zweig interpreted the survival dilemma of a generation with death as the starting point, digging deeply into the goodness and greatness of human nature,in order to resist social injustice and the darkness of the times, and encourage comfort for the unfortunate people.Zweig viewed life by death, affirmed the value of life, and faced death calmly.
