| Whether long-term memory content can attract attention is controversial. The key factor may be: whether the long-term memory content can be automatically activated.Integration refers to the process of integrating multiple separated projects into a whole unit. After the material is integrated and coded,in the extraction stage, only a part of the information needs to be presented, and its overall characterization can be automatically activated. Then, can the integrated long-term memory content lead to selective attention due to the automatic activation of its overall characterization? In the past, the research on integrated processing mainly focused on the memory process itself. The effect of the automatic activation of long-term memory content enhanced by integrated coding on subsequent new selective attention tasks has not been investigated. This study uses eye tracking technology to investigate whether long-term memory content based on integrated coding affects attention selection. This article mainly includes two studies, one of which includes Experiment 1(Experiment 1a and Experiment 1b)and Experiment 2(Experiment 2a and Experiment 2b).The purpose of Study 1 is to explore the effect of shape-color matching(long-term memory information)on visual attention selection based on integrated coding. The long-term memory task is performed first(stage 1).Participants were required to memorize the shape-color pairs that appeared in pairs(Experiment 1a and Experiment 2a used integrated coding).Guide the participants to imagine a shape made up of the colors seen to guide integrated coding.A dual task of working memory and visual search was then performed(stage 2).Participants were required to complete a visual search task while memorizing a single color patch. The key operation is whether any items in the search task are related to working memory items. When relevant, the color of a search item matches the color of the paired item of the working memory item in phase 1.The search targets and matching items in the relevant conditions of Experiment 1 have the same color. In irrelevant conditions, all search item colors are different from working memory items and pairing items. One of the relevant conditions of Experiment 2 is that the search distraction is the same color as the matching item(matching distraction). The results showed that the response time to the search target was significantly shorter than the irrelevant conditions under the matching conditions in Experiment 1a,and there was no significant difference between the two conditions in Experiment 2a.In terms of eye movement results,Experiment 1a found that the search targets The percentage of the first fixation point of is higher than the irrelevant condition, and the latency of the first fixation point of the search target is also shorter than that of the control-irrelevant condition.Experiment 2 found that the percentage of first fixation on the matching distractor in the matching condition was higher and the latency was shorter than that of the distractor corresponding to the spatial position in the irrelevant condition. As a control group, real 1b and experiment 2b used nonintegrated coding to process long-term memory information. As a result,no significant difference was found in both the visual search response time and the eye movement index compared with irrelevant conditions. To verify the reliability and stability of the results,On the basis of Study 1,Study 2 uses different experimental materials(color-color pairing)to further explore the effect of long-term memory information based on integrated coding on visual attention selection.Study 2 also includes Experiment 3 and Experiment 4,and Experiment 1.The experimental procedure of Experiment 2 is the same. The results of experiments 3 and 4 were not significant. In terms of eye movement results,Experiment 3 found that the incubation period of the first fixation point on the search target in the relevant conditions was shorter than the control condition.Experiment 4 found that compared with the distractors corresponding to the spatial position in the control conditions, the percentage of first fixation on the matched distractors in related conditions was higher and the latency was shorter. The results of experiments 3 and 4 show that search items that match the color of the matching items are more likely to attract attention. In summary, the results of this study prove that long-term memory content based on integrated coding, after some of the representations are extracted, the rest of the representations can also be automatically activated to guide attention to selection. This finding for the first time confirms the effect of integrated processing in long-term memory on attention selection,on the one hand,it explains some of the existing research controversies;on the other hand,it expands the integration research to a certain extent, whether long-term memory can guide attention The key factor is whether the long-term memory information can be activated automatically. This argument provides empirical support. |
