| As an important function of self-control to adapt to the society, the successful self-control individuals often have higher adaptability, while the failed self-control individuals often have addiction, deception and even violence and other bad social behaviors. The research of emotion and self-control has always been concerned by researchers, but the influence between them has always been a controversial topic. Some researchers think that emotion can promote self-control,while others think that emotion can inhibit or not have any effect on self-control.In addition,as a kind of self-conscious emotion with self-participation,self-conscious emotion plays an important role in the prosocial behavior of individuals. There are also controversies about the influence of self-conscious emotion on self-control.However,there are few such studies,so this study intends to study the influence of basic emotions and self-conscious emotions on self-control.At the same time, both self loss and cognitive load are regarded as limited resources, but self loss emphasizes the loss of resources in successive time, while cognitive load emphasizes the consumption of resources in the same time. Therefore, this study intends to explore the influence of emotion on self-control in these two different situations.Based on this, this study selects college students as the research object, adopts the dual task paradigm, and uses autobiographical emotional writing task to induce different types of emotions to explore the influence of basic emotions and self-awareness emotions on self-control under the condition of self loss and cognitive load. The first study explored the influence of basic emotion and self-conscious emotion on self-control under the condition of self depletion. In study 1a,a 2 × 3experimental design was used,in which basic emotions(happiness, sadness, neutrality)and self loss(presence, absence)were independent variables, and the consistent and inconsistent reaction time of color word Stroop task was dependent variable. The results showed that compared with the neutral emotion, the happy emotion promoted the self-control under the condition of self loss, while the sademotion had no effect on the self-control.In study 1b,the two factor experiment design was also adopted, with self-consciousness emotion(pride, shame, neutral)and self loss(have,no)as the independent variables, and the consistency of color word Stroop task was the same Inconsistent reaction time is dependent variable. The results show that pride can promote self-control under the condition of self loss, while shame can not.The second study explored the influence of basic emotion and self-conscious emotion on self-control under cognitive load.In study 2a,a 2 × 3 experimental design was used. The basic emotions(happy, neutral, sad)and cognitive load(yes,no)were used as independent variables, and the consistent and inconsistent response time of color word Stroop task was used as dependent variable. The results showed that compared with neutral emotion, happy and sad emotion had no effect on self-control under cognitive load;study 2B also used 2 × 3 experimental design between subjects, taking self-awareness emotion(pride, shame, neutral)and cognitive load(with or without)as independent variables, and the consistency of color word Stroop task and inconsistent response time as dependent variables. The results showed that pride and shame had no effect on self-control under cognitive load.To sum up,this study draws the following conclusions:(1)Compared with neutral emotions, happiness and pride can compensate for the resources consumed by self consumption, thus promoting self-control,while sadness and shame have no effect;(2)Compared with neutral emotions, happiness, pride, sadness and shame can not compensate for the resources consumed by cognitive load, thus promoting self-control. |
