Research On Painting Language Of Oil Painting Portrait

Portrait painting has a long history.From ancient Greek,the Renaissance,modern ages to contemporary era,a number of outstanding painters produced abundant and excellent portrait oil paintings.These excellent ones provided enough nutrition for later painters to advance.Therefore,it is an inevitable path for an artist to study and learn from predecessors.My graduation work focuses on “friends”.In preparation,I read a large number of famous portrait paints,studied formal language and body language of these works to explore my own path of art.My work emphasizes the research on two contemporary portrait painting artists from UK and China named David Hockney and Chao Ge.Although they have different cultural backgrounds with strong personality in art language,there is similarity in their spiritual expression level.As Mao Yan says,“use a whole lifetime to finish a painting,and the main character is myself.” The lyrical background of Chao Ge’s painting has strong sense of the times and a tense expression,while David’s work is pure,which shows a beauty of “silence,harmony”.Their works impress me a lot,and guide me to look forward upon a giant’s shoulder.
