| From knowledge education to ability education,quality education has become the common trend of education reform and development in the world today.Since 2001,literacy has frequently been mentioned in national education documents.First of all,Decision of the State Council on Reform and Development of Basic Education points out that one of the goals of implementing quality-oriented education is that students have primary scientific and humanistic qualities.Subsequently,this goal has become the new national curriculum training goal in Basic Education Curriculum Reform Outline in 2014,Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China issued Opinions on Comprehensively Deepening the Curriculum Reform to Establish Moral Values and Cultivate Students.The concept of “core literacy” is put forward,so as to meet the requirements of cultivating talents in the new century.With the development of the research on core literacy,in 2017,English Curriculum Standards for Ordinary Senior High School clearly put forward that core literacy of English subject should be cultivated.English is a compulsory subject in junior high school,and the core literacy of English subject plays an important role in the whole system of core literacy,which affects the overall level of students’ quality.In the context of quality-oriented education,English learning should not only be limited to the learning of language knowledge or skills,but also include the cultivation of cultural character,thinking quality and learning ability.It reflects the international development trend of English education,and is also the specific goal of English curriculum in junior high school.However,from the perspective of English teaching practice in junior high schools,the cultivation of students’ English core literacy is not ideal.Therefore,the further study needs to be carried out to understand the current situation of the cultivation of the English core literacy in junior middle school,analyze the existing problems,and propose corresponding suggestions.Based on related research at home and abroad,according to the theory of Constructivism,English Curriculum Standards for Ordinary Senior High School and English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education,by using the research methods of questionnaire,classroom observation and interview,this research is conducted that aims to explore the following questions:(a)What is the current situation of cultivating students’ English core literacy in junior high schools in Qiqihar?(b)What are the problems in students’ English core literacy in junior high schools in Qiqihar?(c)What are the factors that influence the students’ English core literacy most in junior high schools in Qiqihar?The results show that the current situation of cultivation is not optimistic.In terms of language ability,due to lack of the language environment and effective ability cultivation strategies,students’ listening and speaking skills are poor,phonological and pragmatic knowledge needs to be strengthened,and relevant skills of discourse analysis are also lacking.In terms of cultural character,relevant cultural knowledge is not taught enough,and culture-related activities in schools are not enough,so students lack cultural confidence,cultural sensitivity to cultural differences,awareness and ability of cross-cultural communication,and ability to publicize the Chinese traditional culture.In terms of thinking quality,due to the lack of systematic thinking training,students’ ability of induction and construction,criticism and innovation are weak.In terms of learning ability,the development and utilization of learning resources are ignored and the cultivation of learning strategies is insufficient.Therefore,students cannot reasonably adjust learning objectives and plans,and use existing learning resources effectively.They cannot communicate timely and effectively because they lack in monitoring over communication strategiesAfter in-depth analysis,the author divides the causes of these problems into three aspects:Firstly,in terms of the curriculum,there are less school-based curriculum and the curriculum is single.Secondly,in terms of the content of teaching materials,cultural contents are less and not conducive to students’ thinking training.Thirdly,in terms of the teacher,teachers are short of teaching concepts of English core literacy.Teaching is too test-oriented.Teaching methods are monotonous and not innovative.Teaching content is one-sided,fragmented.Teaching activities are lacking in the teaching process,and teaching evaluation is mainly based on exam scores.In view of the problems mentioned above,this research puts forward the corresponding countermeasures.Firstly,it is necessary for relevant government departments and schools to develop local curriculum and school-based actively.Secondly,it is important to update teaching materials and teaching contents.Thirdly,it is indispensable for teachers to strengthen the teacher training.Effective English teaching strategies should be explored,including cultural infiltration,and a variety of activities.In the aspects of evaluation,the multi-dimensional evaluation model of core quality should be used instead of the single-dimensional summative evaluation model which focuses more on exam scores.Due to the limitation of geographic and traffic,only three standardized junior high school was chosen as the subjects of the research.The survey sample is small.The author only conducted a relatively superficial research on the four major English core literacy of junior high school students to understand the general situation,analyze the influencing factors,and then proposed relevant suggestions,while the research on a certain English core literacy is not in-depth and detailed.In the further studies,the sample of investigation should be expanded to make the investigation more representative and the research results should be analyzed in various ways,which can provide thorough and comprehensive understanding of the results.Researchers can further explore the cultivation of English core literacy from a micro perspective.Thus,there will be a new breakthrough on English core literacy and innovation from theory to practice. |
