In the past, the research on Yang Shoujing’s concept of calligraphy mainly focused on his calligraphy theory, but little on his epigraph and postscript.Yang’s inscriptions and postscripts were mostly made in his later years. At that time,it was in the late Qing Dynasty when the study of Steles was becoming more and more prosperous, and even described as "covered by the study of Steles".However,Yang Shoujing can clearly realize the disadvantages of focusing on inscriptions, and many of his inscriptions and postscripts are different from the current trend and the calligraphic praying from the perspective of calligraphic theory, which are mainly embodied in "the same emphasis on inscriptions and inscriptions" and "the integration of the north and the South",mainly reflected in his ideas of calligraphic evaluation and aesthetics. Therefore, the collation and discussion of his inscriptions and postscripts may be helpful to a more comprehensive understanding of Yang’s and even the concept of calligraphy in the late Qing Dynasty. |
