This paper examines the dissemination and impact of Yang Shoujing’s epigraphy in Japan,beginning with an analysis of his epigraphic work during the Qing Dynasty.Using the lens of cultural exchange between Yang and key figures in Meiji-era Japanese calligraphy,it investigates the influence of Yang’s epigraphic philosophy on various aspects of the Japanese book circle,including aesthetics,creative direction,book theory,epigraphic collection,and exhibition.Additionally,this paper examines the social and historical context of Yang Shoujing’s epigraphy,as well as the reasons for its widespread acceptance in Japan.This analysis highlights the connection between the substantive content of Yang’s epigraphic philosophy and the contemporary practice of Japanese calligraphy during the Meiji Restoration. |
