The Roman-fleuve trilogy by Li Jieren, which records the socio-historical changes of Sichuan from the end of Qing Dynasty to the beginning of the Republic of China in successive volumes,is of great significance for studying the socio-historical images of Sichuan. The works maximizes the self-sufficient living scene of Sichuan and the complex primitive ecological folk life in the folk perspective of daily life.Through depicting the urban space development and the local life situation in the turbulent social history,it presents a dynamic image of Sichuan society. The original version of Roman-fleuve is the main discussion object. This paper consists of 4 chapters. The chapter 1 analyzes the differences of the description of Chengdu between Li Jieren and writers from the local and other provinces to explore its unique scene. It shows complex original folk writing from nature and culture. The chapter 2 starts with the "city",observes the interaction between people and city through the changes of family interior and urban public space. It shows renewal of life and explores the deep meaning of historical development of the coexistence of tradition and modernity, localization and westernization and living and political space. The chapter 3 based on "people",studies the changes in the structure of local power hidden behind human activities. It mainly includes the power struggles of citizens and women from private space to forced "public space participation".The chapter 4 based on the requirements of the times and subjective consciousness of the author, discusses the changes of versions of the works. It analyzes the narrative differences and the gain and loss of documentary and literary writing from the description of daily life and the record of historical events in the original and revised versions of the works. Moreover,it discusses the gap in the interpretation of the socio-historical picture in the works through the dislocation between different socio-historical research methods.Under the comprehensive effect of many aspects, the rich and dynamic socio-historical picture of Sichuan depicted by Li Jieren’s Roman-fleuve is finally explored.
