English reading accounts for a large proportion in senior high school English teaching.However,the teacher-centered reading teaching mode in senior high school English teaching does not fully consider students’ current reading ability and implement the learning-centered education.Students’ interest and participation concerning English reading are not positive,and their English reading proficiency is not improved as expected.Teachers should diversify their teaching and explore a more beneficial method to improve students’ interest and participation in English reading to develop their English reading proficiency.Interactive reading mode emphasizes the interactions between teacher-students in the pre-reading stage,between students-text in the while-reading stage and between students-students in the post-reading stage.In the course of English reading teaching,it not only ensures the systematicness and integrity of the reading process,but also improves students’ initiative and reading proficiency.Therefore,this research applies the interactive reading mode to English teaching in senior high school to enhance reading teaching efficiency.It attempts to answer two questions:1)In what aspects does the Interactive Reading Mode enhance students’ participation in reading class?2)How does the Interactive Reading Mode improve students’ Englishreading competence?A 3-month study is conducted in two parallel classes of Grade Two in Guiyang No.9 Senior High School.There are 84 participants,42 students in the experimental class and 42 students in the control class.The two classes are taught by the author.The difference is the teaching methods adopted by the two classes.The experimental class adopts the interactive reading mode,while the control class adopts the traditional teaching mode.The research instruments include tests,questionnaires,interviews and class observation.The reading scores of the two classes before and after the experiment are analyzed through SPSS.In terms of the experimental class,in the pre-reading stage,the author shows teaching activities,including short videos,pictures and questions related to the content of the reading materials and student’ daily life,which are beneficial to arouse the students’ interest,curiosity and learning expectation.The students are able to predict the main idea of the reading materials boldly and actively.In the while-reading stage,the author puts forward the questions related to the reading materials from simplicity to complexity to the students in turn.The students read the reading materials according to the corresponding reading skills,and then discuss in groups to share their viewpoints and gain the correct answers,which are conducive to promoting the students’ reading competence communicative competence.Every student has different life experiencesand language skills,when they discuss with each other,they being able to share their ideas,enlighten each other and deeply understand the reading materials.After discussing with each other,students still do not understand the reading materials,and then the author is going to explain them in detail,which is beneficial to establish a new relationship between teacher and students,boost the students’ English reading interest and accumulate students’ language skills.In the post-reading stage,the teacher guides students to summarize main idea of every paragraph with keywords in groups and discuss topics related to reading materials,so as to improve students’ participation and reading competence.Consequently,the following conclusions are obtained: 1)Interactive Reading Mode enhances the students’ participation in English reading class,which is reflected in two aspects.The first aspect is that they take active part in the class discussion.The second aspect is that they actively answer questions in class;2)Interactive Reading Mode improves students’ English reading competence through interaction between background and language skills in the process of English reading teaching.
