| Kazuo Ishiguro(Kazuo Ishiguro,1954-)is one of the most famous writers in the world today, along with Salman Rushdie and Vidiadhar Surajpasad Naipaul, known as the three heroes of British literary migration.Kazuo Ishiguro won the Nobel Prize for literature in 2017.His works show the traumatized inner world of ordinary people in modern society with hazy and vague strokes.A Pale View of Hills is one of Ishiguro’s earliest works and one of his most representative works.Based on the theory of trauma and the female identity, this paper takes A Pale View of Hills as research object, probes into trauma’s causes, symptoms and recovery of the three main female characters.Firstly, the paper analyzes the causes of the trauma of the three female characters, mainly from the perspective of collective trauma and individual trauma. Then this thesis explores cognitive, emotional and behavioral traumatic symptoms of three female characters in the face of trauma. The last part focuses on the analysis of their recovery process, that is,their way to find their own female identity. This paper examines the multiple predicaments of three female characters in the novel under the circumstances of war, patriarchal oppression and lack of female identity, and probes into the inevitable process of female trauma treatment implied by the author in the novel, showing the growth trajectory of women under the trauma.Different women go to different ends. The fate of women does not depend on their race or gender, but on their determination and efforts to find female identity. The women in the text resist multiple oppressions to varying degrees, and their experiences bring enlightenment and encouragement to those women who are still marginalized. |
