A Study On The Henan Dao’s Granaries In Tang Dynasty

As the most basic living material,grain production,storage and circulation have an important impact on the politics,economy and military of a society.In the Tang Dynasty,Henan Dao occupied a unique geographical position and was the political and economic center of the whole Guanzhong regime,so it was frequently contested by the regime in the Tang Dynasty.Therefore,the study of grain and storage problems in Henan Dao area of Tang Dynasty can explore the emergence and demise of Tang regime from the perspective of economy and society.Based on the existing related sources,this paper present the basic situation of the grain production,storage and circulation in terms of both regional and historical during this period and attempts to further discuss its influence on various aspects of the Tang regime in order to make a new interpretation of some problems at that time from different anglesIn the early Tang Dynasty,due to the ruler’s policy of focusing on agriculture,agriculture in Henan Dao region developed greatly,and millet and wheat were mainly cultivated in this region with large scale and high yield.In addition,there were records of rice planting in small areas in today’s Shandong Peninsula region.The great development of agricultural production and the need of national finance and taxation make the government have to perfect the local storage system.On the basis of inheriting the Sui Dynasty,the government gradually established a complete grain storage and transportation system,among which Henan Dao played an important role.The granaries of HenanDao in Tang Dynasty can be divided into Hanjia warehouse,Zheng warehouse,Yi warehouse,Changping warehouse and Transshipment warehouse.From the point of time,they all experienced the new construction in the early Tang Dynasty,the prosperity in the middle tang dynasty and the decline in the late tang dynasty.In the early and middle years of social stability and political clarity,the establishment and reform of the storage system have achieved positive results,with huge grain reserves and strong social security role.But in the middle and late period,the wars continued,and the fenced towns were divided,and the supply and payment could not enter,and the storage system was destroyed,which seriously hurted the stability of the regime.The development of Henan Dao granary was basically consistent with the rise and fall of the tang regime,affecting the establishment and demise of the tang regime,and it played an important role in the material supply to the guanzhong regime,the social relief during the famine years,the rebellion of an and shi,and the peasant wars at the end of the tang dynasty.
