| Babylon is a famous city-state along the Mesopotamia.From the early Dynast y to the Achaemenid Persian Empire,The unknown Babylon became one of the four capitals of the Empire,the central city of the Mesopotamia.During the Hellenization p eriod,since Alexander conquered Babylon,Babylon was built into one of the central c ities of East-West communication through a series of political,economic,religious and cultural policies in seven years.When Alexander came back from the eastern expeditio n,a New Babylon became the capital of a new empire.Babylon has a long history of commercial economy and banking industry.At the same time,it has gathered busines smen from the East and the West and become the economic center of the Empire.In politics,Alexander actively integrated into Babylon,respected its tradition of autonomy, and at the same time spread Greek culture imperceptibly.Babylon became the politic al center of the Empire.In terms of religion and culture,Alexandria restored the templ e,built Greek architecture,spread Greek Olympian religion and Greek culture,and act ively promoted the integration of Greek religion and Babylonian traditional religion.Ho wever,Alexandria’s early death made the Empire split rapidly,and Babylon became th e focus of contention among various forces.Years of war made Babylon’s position dec line rapidly.After the establishment of the Seleucid Kingdom,Babylon became the capi tal of the country,but it was soon replaced by the new city of Seleucia.Until the late Parthian Kingdom,this glorious millennium old city was buried in the yellow sand.Previous studies on the city of Babylon focused on the kingdom of Ancient Babylon,the kingdom of Kassite Dynasty of Babylon,the kingdom of Neo-Babylonian Empire and the period of Achaemenid Persian Empire,rarely involving the Hellenizati on period.This paper attempts to make up for this deficiency and explore the rise and fall of Babylon in the Hellenistic period.This paper is divided into three parts: introd uction,text and conclusion.The introduction briefly introduces the purpose and signific ance of the topic,as well as the research status of Babylon city in Hellenistic period at home and abroad.The text analyzes and inspects Babylon from six aspects.1.The ch ange of Babylon during the Hellenization period;2.The spatial structure of Babylon;3.The politics of Babylon;4.The economy of Babylon;5.The religion and culture of Ba bylon;6.The disappearance of Babylon.The conclusion points out that the Enlightenme nt of the city change of Babylon to the modern urbanization and the analysis of Baby lon in the Hellenistic period are far from detailed and in-depth,so the study of Babyl on in this period still needs to be strengthened. |
