The non-interrogative use of Chinese WH-word “Shénme” is often used in spoken Chinese.It is regarded as a difficult and important point in the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language for its manifold and complicity in classification.Some advanced and valuable progress have been made in non-interrogative use of Chinese WH-word "Shénme".But in general,researches about how to teach Non-interrogative use of Chinese WH-word "Shénme" are minimal in number compare to researches about Non-interrogative Use of Chinese WH-word "Shénme".Based on the theory of Cognitive-functional Approach,this paper is trying to find a new way to teaching non-interrogative use of Chinese WH-word "Shénme".As a result,the method of classroom teaching will be enriched.Cognitive-functional Approach is a theory based on the practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,so the theory is applicable to teaching Chinese.The idea of Cognitive-functional Approach value the importance of context and contrast,teachers help students understand language rule by providing "effective linguistic data ",a new teaching materials which is processed or compiled by teachers according to the teaching principle of Cognitive-functional Approach in order to achieve the teaching goals and develop their cognitive ability.First of all,this paper summarizes and classifies the non-interrogative use of Chinese WH-word "Shénme" in Chinese oral text book,and then get six categories,namely,negative meaning,enumeration meaning,arbitrary reference,implicit meaning,euphemism usage and anaphoric reference.To get a better understanding of how difficult of the word for students,we sorted out the degree of difficulty according to the degree of difficulty mode.Secondly,under the guiding principles of Cognitive-functional Approach,this paper ranking apply of them to teaching the Non-interrogative use of Chinese WH-word "Shénme",which include providing effective teaching material,taking full advantage of context and making comparison.We attempt to compile the teaching materials on the basis of the series of oral teaching materials Developing Chinese.Finally,a teaching design is made under the principle we have mentioned before,we select a negative usage of Chinese WH-word "Shénme" as an example for it’s difficult to learn.Under the principle of Cognitive-functional Approach,we are trying to compile effective linguistic data and design how to teach the Non-interrogative Use of Chinese WH-word "Shénme",it is founded that Cognitive-functional Approach accords with teaching the Non-interrogative Use of Chinese WH-word "Shénme".Meanwhile,the teaching mode of Cognitive-functional Approach "providing effective linguistic data——guiding ——practice" can stimulate students’ interest to learn the rules.As a result,their cognitive ability will be improved,thus have a good command of the efficiency of classroom teaching.
