Study On The Usage Of Non-Interrogation Of Interrogative Pronoun "Shenme(什么)"

To some interrogative pronouns, it's a long evolutional process from the interrogative usage to non-interrogative usage and the process is a pervading of the function this thesis observes and analyzes the usage of non-interrogation of interrogative pronoun "Shenme(什么)" and describes the trace of development about this grammar phenomena in history in detail. On the basis of the our study, we gave some necessary explanations about the process grammaticalization with using the theories of pragmatics and cognitive linguistics.The first chapter is introduction, introducing the object of the research, the purpose and methods of the research, the original of corpus and the research that has already been accomplished.Chapter Two does some classification about the usage of non-interrogation of interrogative pronoun "Shenme(什么)". According to the synchronic criterion and diachronic criterion, we from the form and meaning aspect classified the usage as the following nine types—interrogation, subjunctive reference, doubt-unsureness, arbitrariness, exclamation, correlating reference, negation, enumeration, anaphora .Chapter Three and Chapter Four observe and analyze every usage of interrogative pronoun "Shenme" detailedly from the diachronic aspect. On the basis of fully analyzing the synchronic and diachronic corpus, we described the development condition of the usage of non-interrogation in detail, and then we got the trace of engendering, developing, maturing and eclipsing of every usage of interrogative pronoun "Shenme".In Chapter Five, we tried our best to explain the engendering and developing of the usage of non-interrogation of interrogative pronoun "Shenme(什么)" in terms of the grammaticalization theory. We believe that "Shenme" evolved all kinds of usage of non-interrogation under the restriction of semantic and syntactic mechanism; meanwhile the usage of non-interrogation is also affected by some factors, such as the pragmatic, cognitive and auto-adjusting system.At last, we summed up the opinion of the thesis and points out the deficiency of this thesis.
