On Dubbing Of Animations From The Perspective Of Multimodality Network

Chinese animated films hit the trail in 2015,the year in which Monkey King: Hero is Back ignited the enthusiasm for domestic animations.As a series of great films like Big Fish & Begonia gradually opened up the market and the year of 2019 eventually witnessed one of the climaxes in the development of Chinese animated films featuring blockbusters such as Nezha,White Snake and The legend of Luo Xiaohei.At that time,some producers started to turn their eyes to the global market.Nezha and White Snake both were released in English-speaking theaters in subtitled and then dubbed versions.From the perspective of the target audience of animations and the habit of dubbing countries,the form of dubbing is also a significant way to help Chinese animations go global.The soundtrack-replacing method is by no means similar to script translation or interpretation.Other signifiers certainly have a role to play in the dubbing process.This thesis conducts a comparative study between original and dubbed Nezha and White Snake to analyze different meaning-making resources in the dubbing process.It aims to explore how signifiers interplay with each other to create meaning and how they are handled by the translator.To achieve this goal,the study adopts the networked system proposed by Harmut St?ckl(2004)as the framework and compensates it with the tripartite model invented by Bosseaux(2019)as blood and bones.Four core modes:image,language,sound and music,their medial variants and sub-modes,are organized and compared,adding into each of them the bolts of nuts borrowed from Bosseaux’s model.The comparison registers that in this two audiovisual texts,different modes are closely related to each other.Each core mode has its medial variants and its rendering is under the influence of other modes.There are several ways used by the translators.As for the modes themselves,the translators make some adaptations or keep them unchanged.As to the interaction between modes,translators:1.keep the original mode2.abandon the original mode 3.keep the original links between modes 4.abandon the original links between modes 5.create new links.
