| With the continuous development in voice recognition and machine translation,the computer-assisted interpretation(CAI)has gradually expanded into commercial use.Though it is not mature enough to replace interpreters,with its massive corpus and deverblization capability of the interpreter,the interpretation performance has the potential to be enhanced through collaboration of two.The thesis takes the Effort Model proposed by Gile as the theoretical framework to explore the impact of CAI on number accuracy,fluency and its negative effect such as mistakes in recognition in English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation.The software Iflyrec is adapted in experiment for voice recognition and machine translation,hoping that the result and conclusion could serve as the reference for interpreters.Results show that accuracy of number interpreting has been improved with CAI.Between two modes of assistance,the performance of voice recognition is superior to that combined with machine translation.Through CAI,the missed interpretation of the year and wrong interpretation of numbers of great magnitude have been extensively improved due to the optimized effort allocation.However,the side effect of CAI is found in higher-than-average error rate of numbers wrongly recognized by Iflyrec and disfluency due to the subjects’ reliance on the software.The experiment proved that computer-assisted interpreting can improve the accuracy of number interpretation by less missed interpretation of the year and misinterpretation of number of large magnitude.Based on the findings,interpreters are advised to optimize and balance their effort allocation through exercises to avoid over-dependence,which could drag the performance,to better utilize computer-assisted interpretation to improve the accuracy and fluency of number interpretation. |
