Differences Of Translators’ Performances In Post-editing Of Popular Science Text Based On QA Analysis

In recent years,the integration of computer technology and the translation industry have brought about the rapid development of the translation service industry.As a new model,post-editing(PE)of machine translation plays an important part in improving translation efficiency.As an important factor in the translation process,translators’ PE ability has attracted more and more attention.This thesis is an experimental report.Through a case study,this thesis evaluates the differences between translation beginners and senior translators in post-editing the selected chapters in a popular science text entitled Stephen Hawking written by Leonard Mlodinow.The experimental text is processed by a machine translation engine in the pre-translation stage and then imported into memo Q for post-editing.Using automatic quality analysis data as a reference,this experiment aims to compare the differences between beginners and experienced translators in post-editing of popular science texts,analyze the PE ability and translation habits of translators at different levels in popular science translation,and combine automatic quality analysis with text quality analysis more comprehensively.The error types are classified by using the MQM model,and the participants’ PE texts are analyzed,which overcomes the shortcomings of the previous single data collection model and makes the experimental data more objective and comprehensive,intending to give beginners some effective suggestions on post-editing of popular science texts.According to the experimental results,the main conclusions are as follows:1)Using automatic quality analysis can more intuitively reflect the post-editing differences of different levels of translators,and improve the efficiency of post-editing text analysis.2)Compared with experienced translators,beginners will make more cognitive efforts in the post-editing process due to their lack of target language ability and professional background knowledge.3)Compared with the beginners,the advantages of skilled translators are mainly reflected in the revision of long and difficult sentences and the mastery of subject knowledge background.4)From the comparison of edit distance,it can be seen that machine translation brings about more restrictions and obstacles for post-editing for beginners.5)In translation hybrid text of biographical and popular science work,when the translators deal with more literary elements,more experienced translators will show a greater edit distance from the machine-translated texts.
