A Comparative Study On The Cultural Meaning Of Animal Words In Chinese And Pashto And The Teaching Of Chinese As A Foreign Language

As a part of language vocabulary system,animal words contain rich cultural meanings.There are abundant animal words in every language,which reflect people’s unique thinking habits and cognitive style behind the language.In the process of second language acquisition,because the cultural meaning of the same animal word may be different in different languages,and the pragmatic environment is also different,it is easy to misunderstand in cross-cultural communication,resulting in communication barriers and affecting learners’ target language acquisition.This paper takes the animal words in Chinese and Pashto as the research object,uses the relevant theories of semantics,and takes the statistical method,interview method,questionnaire method and analysis method as the main research methods,specifically analyzes the similarities and differences of the cultural meanings of animal words in Chinese and Pashto,and probes into the teaching strategies of animal words for Chinese learners whose mother tongue is Pashto,In order to help Chinese animal words and culture teaching.This paper is divided into four chapters:The introduction of the first chapter mainly introduces the research background and significance of this paper,analyzes the research status of animal words and Pashto related issues from both foreign and domestic perspectives,and explains the corpus source of this paper.The second chapter first describes the definition and characteristics of animal words,focusing on the analysis of the origin of cultural meaning of animal words in Chinese and Pashto.Through the analysis,it is concluded that animal characteristics and living habits are the common sources of cultural meanings of animal words in the two languages.Meanwhile,the sources of cultural meanings of animal words in Chinese are mainly related to traditional culture,while the sources of cultural meanings of animal words in Pashto are mainly animal living environment,religious culture and life experience.In addition,the statistics of animal words in TCFL are made to provide the basis for the later writing.The third chapter mainly from the Chinese and Pashto animal words cultural meaning similar,part of the same,big difference or opposite,vacancy and animal words different but cultural meaning of the same five parts of comparative analysis.The results show that: first,the cultural meaning of animal words in Chinese and Pashto is more different than that in common;Secondly,traditional culture and geographical factors are the most important factors affecting the cultural meaning of animal words in the two languages;Thirdly,the cultural meanings of animal words in Chinese are mostly associative,while in Pashto they are mostly metaphorical;Fourth,most of the animal words in the two languages are related to the traditional culture.The fourth chapter is mainly based on the comparative analysis of the cultural meanings of animal words in the two languages in the third chapter,starting from the similarities and differences of the cultural meanings of Chinese and Pashto animal words,and putting forward suggestions from four aspects of teaching materials,teachers,students and teaching methods,in order to promote the development of Chinese as a second language teaching.
