A Study On The Reduplicated Form Of "Yi +Classifier+Noun" In Modern Chinese

In modern Chinese,the structure of "yi+classifier + noun" can be used continuously to form such formats as“一寸光阴一寸金”,“一把鼻涕一把眼泪”and“一个字一个字”,we call this kind of expressive format as the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun".In the actual language practice,the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun" is used frequently,but related study and application in academic circles is very few now,and there are few research results about it.In this dissertation,we based on a large amount of data and using the method of quantitative analysis,try to make a comprehensive investigation on the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+ noun".Firstly,the structural features,syntactic functions and components of the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun" structure are investigated.According to whether the front "yi+classifier+noun" and the latter "yi+classifier+noun" are the same,the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun" can be divided into the reduplicated form of same "yi+classifier+noun" and the reduplicated form of different"yi+classifier+noun".According to the structure type,the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun" can be divided into three types:juxtapositional structure,subject-predicate structure and overlap structure.The syntactic functions of juxtapositional structure are the most abundant,followed by subject-predicate,and overlap structure is used as adverbial in the sentence mainly.There are certain restrictions on the syllables and part of speechs of classifiers and nouns which enter this format,and the meaning and usage of the constant "one" are also different in different reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+ noun".Then explore the semantic relationship between the front "yi+classifier+noun"and the latter "yi+classifier+noun".There are five semantic relations between them:be parataxis,ordinal relation,ratio relation,implication relation and metaphor relationship.From the view of the overall meaning of this format,the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun" is not just a simple addition of the literal meaning of the front "yi+classifier+noun" and the latter "yi+classifier+noun" sometimes,but often has its specific formal meaning,such as "one by one","continuous","all",and so on.And it even may has metaphorical meaning.Finally,the pragmatic function of this format is analyzed.From the perspective of the semantic connection between the format and other parts of the text,it can be seen that the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun" has the function of discourse coherence,and often serves as a connecting link in the text,making the content of the context more coherent and the transition more natural.From the perspective of expression effect,the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun" has expressive function and emphatic function.The expressive function means this format can express the speaker’s subjective emotion or viewpoint,which is presented as this format can express the speaker’s subjective evaluation of quantities,and this format also has the sentimental colors of praise or criticism.Emphatic function refers to the fact that the reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun" is often highlighted as the emphasized information in the sentence,which mainly adopts syntactic emphasis and rhetorical emphasis.The reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun" also has referential function and descriptive function.The reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun",which highlights referential function,focuses on the thing indicated by the reference,and can indicate referential,nonreferential or generic.The reduplicated form of "yi+classifier+noun",which highlights descriptive function focuses on the description of the nature and state of things or behaviors.
