In psychological counseling,"working alliance”is the core healing factor shared by all genres/methods,and there is a stable relationship with the counseling effect.For psychological counselors,establishing and maintaining a good working alliance can effectively help visitors,but inevitably,the breakdown of the working alliance will happen from time to time,which is a big challenge for the counselor.In terms of existing research,foreign countries have conducted a series of studies on the process of "rupture and repair of working alliances",and developed relevant models and treatment methods,but domestic attention has not been given enough attention to this process.This research hopes to use qualitative research methods and specific cases to understand what the consultants thought and do in the event of the breakdown of the working alliance,so as to provide clues for follow-up research and psychological counseling practice.The research adopts the method of explanatory phenomenological analysis and conducted in-depth interviews with 8 participants.A total of 27 cases were collected,of which 7 were successfully repaired,10 were not successfully repaired,and cases involving one or several fragments 10.Through data analysis,four high-level themes and several sub-themes below were gathered:(1)The occurrence of the definition of rupture,including the specific behavior of the parties and the inner feelings of the consultants.It was found that the consultants were defining the working alliance.The main basis for the breakup event is still some specific behaviors of the visitors.Their own inner feelings are more used as clues or evidence to remind themselves of possible breakup events in the future or to confirm that the working alliance has broken down at this time;(2))Repair process,including finding the cause of the rupture,discussing the process of rupture,and the inter-contact mode.It is found that it is meaningful to find the cause of the rupture.It can be used as a reference for the consultant’s next work direction and can also help in consultation.The teacher understands or tolerates the negative emotions caused by the rupture.The content of the discussion of the rupture process involves the consultant’s perspective,the client’s perspective,and the interactive process during and after the rupture.The timing of the discussion should be considered.Inter-contact patterns may appear in the consultation.It may also only exist in the work plan of the consultant;(3)The role of the consultant includes the five sub-themes of understanding,confrontation,acceptance,“alarm”,and“let down”,and the consultant’s understanding of his role is affected Its performance in the collapse of the alliance;(4)Helping factors,including positive feedback from visitors,supervision,personal reflection,personal experience,and other life events.Finally,the findings in this research are compared with previous studies,the value of the research is discussed,the limitations of the research are pointed out,and the direction of future research is proposed. |
