The Relationship Between Counselor 's Speech Reaction Technology And Working Alliance In The First Psychological Counseling

working alliance is conscious positive cooperation and emotional connection between clients and counselors which is considered one of the most critical factors in the process of counseling and the indispensable part of the counseling. Counselors’ verbal response technology is an important variable in the study of counseling process,which is also the behavioral response of counselors. The first consultation is the key to establish working alliance and the level of counselor’s verbal responses has significant influence on the result. There were differences between mature counselor and new counselors of using verbal response technology and the differences were reflected in the quality of working alliance. When counselors faced to the clients of middle school students and university students, they used different verbal response technology and the differences would have slight effect on the working alliance.The study selected one mature counselor’s 15 cases and 13 new counselors’ 15 cases that were all first consultation and recorded all of the consultations. Then transcribed these recording to about 200,000- word- transcription. First of all, encoded and classified the content of counselors’ verbal responses in 30 cases through the Consensual Quality Research and then constructed the type of counselors’ verbal responses in the first consultation. Second, explore the correlation between these technology and working alliance. Third, analyzed the relationship between the differences of technology using by mature and new counselors and working alliance.Finally, respectively compared the difference of technology using in middle school students’ and university students’ consultations, and analyzed the relationship between the difference with working alliance.The purpose of this study was showing the verbal response technology which had advantageous to the working alliance in the first consultant to provide model for technological learning for new learners through exploring the relationship between counselor’s verbal response and working alliance.The research showed:1 For the first consultation, counselors and clients could establish a medium quality working alliance. Mature counselor could establish a better quality working alliance than new counselors;2 Counselors verbal response technology such as Insight question(Closed question),About feelings(Open question) 、 Immediacy and Guidance(Cognitive task) and working alliance were positive correlated;3 Disclosure(Method/experience disclosure had negatively correlation with working alliance.4 Mature counselor was more constantly using Closed question, Open question,Interpretation, Immediacy, Information and Guidance than new counselor. Otherwise,mature counselor preferred block-type using Insight question(Closed question), About feelings(Open question) and series-type using Cognitive task(Guidance);5 Counselors and university clients could establish better quality of working alliance.Counselors used more Interpretation, Information and Disclosure in university student’ counseling. However, counselors used more Guidance in middle school students’ counseling.
