Liu Ji,one of the founding fathers of Ming dynasty,is the hero for all time due to his achievements both in service to the country and works of writing. He is good at strategies and is praised by emperor ZHU Yuanzhang “My eminent minister who can compete Zifang who served the same position in Han Dynasty”.His abundant knowledge of history and Confucian classics makes him the “the Three Great Writers of Early Ming Dynasty”along with SONG Lian and GAO Qi.As a philosopher, strategist, litterateur and statesman of far reaching influence since Yuan and Ming Dynasties,Liu Ji’s deeds and works have been paid much attention to;however, studies on Liu Ji are mostly focused on his works with mature thoughts, like Yu Li Zi and so on.Chun Qiu Ming Jing, his early work,is more appeared for textural research of its completing time.As his only completed book on studies of Confucian Classics,it is far more needed to focus on the thoughts it inherits and concepts it presents beyond its completing time so as to picture a more well-rounded person by clearing the change of his thoughts from his early years to later periods. With the basic knowledge of Liu Ji,the paper explores his inheritance of Confucian Classics thoughts from two perspectives: historical origins of school and contents sources of Chun Qiu Ming Jing.Apart from that, exploring the completing time of the book is also the goal of this thesis.Because of a lack of direct literature, the result is verified from three aspects: sequences of collected works, doubts about Confucian classics, and contents of Confucian classics.Edition is not an issue as Chun Qiu Ming Jing is always published in collection.Study on the thought of Chun Qiu Ming Jing is conducted from two perspectives.First of all, explore his understanding of Chun Qiu through heavenly principles and human relations, rites and music. He believes that Chun Qiu is the matter of the son of Heaven which is related to heavenly principles and human relations, while it is a must to promote rites and music if to understand heavenly principles.Liu Ji also divides the rites and music into two branches: the internal one between the emperor and his ministers, and the external between the Han people and other ethnic minorities.Secondly, explore the ideas of Li,Qi,heaven and man presented in Chun Qiu Ming Jing. This paper expounds Liu Ji’s thought of Neo-Confucianism after maturity and his thought of Neo-Confucianism in his early work of Chun Qiu Ming Jing,so as to further clarify Liu Ji’s thought of Neo-Confucianism in Chun Qun Ming Jing.Although Liu Ji writes Chun Qiu Ming Jing to pass the Imperial Competitive Examination, the book is still worth to inquiry and research. With clear understanding of advantages and disadvantages of Chun Qiu Ming Jing,it is expected to form a well-round image of Liu Ji in his early times and meanwhile to discover the possible influence of Chun Qiu Ming Jing to give a more comprehensive understanding of Chun Qun Ming Jing.
