During the period of the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,in the context of growing domestic and foreign troubles,the domestic upsurge of the western border was raised.Under this upsurge,many domestic officials and scholars came to visit and left a lot of travel notes about Xinjiang.Among them,there are travel notes on various aspects of Ili society at that time.Located in the western border of China,Yili is an important gateway connecting China’s Xinjiang and Central Asia.In 1884,before Xinjiang set up the province,it was the political center of Xinjiang.After the province was established,it still served as the resident of General Yili,which appeared in many major historical events and had an important impact on the history of Xinjiang.During the period of the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,this was a period of great change,and its influence was not only important to the entire country,but also to Xinjiang and Yili.This article intends to start from the travel notes of the Chinese people,according to the records of various aspects of Yili,from the aspects of the social life,social production,spiritual life of the people in Yili,to restore a different Ili society from the historical records.This article is divided into three parts.The first part is the introduction.This part introduces the reasons for the choice of the topic,the theoretical significance,the academic research dynamics,and the domestic travel records about the Yili area.The second part mainly describes the travel notes.The complex geographical environment and human environment of Yili District;the third part discusses the social life of clothing,food,housing,travel and other aspects of social production in the Ili region during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,and commercial,industrial,animal husbandry and other social material production.As well as several characteristics of Yili’s social life reflected in the travel notes,the modernization trend of society and the exchange and integration of culture.
