| This translation report mainly analyzes the mistranslations in the English-Chinese translation of A Short History of the Anglo-Saxons(Chapter 6).Through an analysis of the translation cases, the translator proposes that there are mainly three kinds of mistranslations, namely, grammatical mistranslations, cultural mistranslations, and problematic expressions.Furthermore, the translator analyzes the specific reasons leading to the mistranslations and comments on the effectiveness of the improved versions.Taking these mistranslations into consideration, the translator puts forward some strategies in translating historical texts.Translators in this field are supposed to develop keen awareness of the similarities and differences between English and Chinese, master basic English sentence patterns and attach importance to high-quality English language input, thus reducing grammatical mistranslations.Meanwhile, translators should get full access to the cultural characteristics of English-speaking countries, communicate with native speakers to gain a first-hand cultural experience to reduce cultural mistranslations. Finally, translators should stress good Chinese language input, practice imitative Chinese writing, and optimize modifications to reduce problematic expressions. |
