Graham Greene is a unique British writer in the 20 th century,and he is also a famous novelist in the history of contemporary world literature.His novels are exquisitely conceived and fascinating.At the same time,he also examines the society and the world with a critical eye and explores the human nature.Therefore,Greene’s novels are not only entertaining in reading,but also serious in caring for real life.On the basis of text interpretion,the paper makes a systematic study of the spatial writing in Greene’s novels with Lefebvre’s spatial criticism.This study interprets Greene’s novels from three aspects: “landscape space”,“social space” and “individual space”,from the overall study to the individual study,from the surface layer to the connotation of the novels,and explores the deep meaning of these novels.The first chapter is the introduction part,which gives a brief overview of Greene and his novels,and combs the research status of Greene’s novels at home and abroad.At the same time,the paper systematically combs and clarifies the spatial theory,and then puts forward the research methods and ideas.The second chapter “Landscape Space in Greene’s Novels” discusses the spatial writing characteristics brought by Greene’s travel experience.Starting from the two landscapes of modern city and foreign world in his novels,this paper will discusses the deep connotation and spirit of the times implied in Greene’s novels.The third chapter “Social Space in Greene’s Novels” focuses on the social and cultural attributes of the spatial writing in Greene’s novels.At the same time,from the perspective of Lefebvre’s “the Production of Space”,the paper analyzes the relationship between space production and social power,religion and mass culture in space.The fourth chapter“Individual Space in Greene’s Novels”,the individual space is a representational space with personal experience.People of different classes,races and genders in the novels have their own space experience,but they all express the spiritual characteristics of modern people’s loneliness,alienation and depression in different ways,so as to gather into a spiritual space with strong individual color and era atmosphere.The conclusion further points out the uniqueness of these novels’ spatial writing on the basis of summarizing the full text.Greene’s untiring writing of space in his novels also shows his profound understanding of the real society and his strong humanities concern. |
