English writing is not only one of the four basic language skills,but also an important indicator to measure students’ ability to use English.It plays an important role in the entire process of language learning.But for many junior high students,English writing is a difficult point in English learning.It mainly shows that students are not good at using writing strategies to guide writing.Related researches on writing strategies at home and abroad indicate that writing strategies have positive impact on English writing.Therefore,this research aims to investigate the application of writing strategies in junior high school students.The research mainly investigates the following three research questions:Question 1: What is the overall situation of junior high school students’ application of English writing strategies?Question 2: Is there any correlation between students’ application of English writing strategies and writing proficiency?Question 3: What are the differences in English writing strategies application between high-score group and low-score group?Based on the above questions,205 students of Grade Eight from four parallel classes in No.63 Junior High School in Dalian,Liaoning Province are randomly selected as the research sample.The research instruments contain questionnaires,tests and an interview.SPSS19.0 is used to analyze research data,and a combination of quantitative and qualitative research is adopted.The results of the research show that 1.the overall application of writing strategies by students of Grade Eight is at a medium frequency level.Among the five strategies investigated,linguistic means strategies are used most frequently,followed by cognitive strategies,meta-cognitive strategies and conceptual organization strategies.The least frequently used strategies are social/affective strategies.2.the application of writing strategies is positively correlated with writing proficiency.3.high-score group and low-score group show significant differences in the application of writing strategies.The high-score group uses the writing strategies more frequently than the low-score group.In accordance with the results of this research,some suggestions are put forward for teachers and students in English writing teaching and learning.
