| The report is based on the translation of the Journalistic work named London Labour and the London Poor(Chapter 25),which was written by Henry Mayhew and published in1851.Encountered with the linguistic features of news documentary,highlighted objective facts and vivid images in the book,the translator aims to reproduce the original scene of the19thcentury London street life in target translation with the guidance of functional equivalence theory.The report consists of five chapters.Chapter one is the task description,which introduces the source of the task,the language characteristics of the text and the requirements of the entruster.Chapter two is a description of the translation process,including preparation before translation,translating process,revision and feedback.Chapter three elaborates the outline of Nida’s Translation theory and its core.Chapter four analyzes cases and discusses translation strategies employed:conversion and addition at lexical level,division,order re-adjustment and voice conversion at the syntactic level;cohesion by conjunction and unity by linear translation at the textual level.The last part presents a conclusion,summarizing the guiding role of functional equivalence in E-C translation of news documentary text,which gives some references to the study of Chinese translation of news genre. |
