Writing,as a way for language output,is an important part in language.therefore,it is necessary to improve writing ability in English teaching.However,the current situation of writing teaching in senior high school is still far from being satisfactory.Students’ writing ability cannot be improved effectively,and English writing teaching is“time-consuming and inefficient ”.To solve such problems,the study applies the narrow reading strategy in writing teaching to explore its effectiveness.The study aims at exploring the following three questions:1.What is the status quo of senior high school English writing teaching?2.Whether narrow reading strategy can enhance senior students’ interest in English writing ? 3.Whether narrow reading strategy can improve students’ writing scores ?The study was carried out in 2 classes of a high school in Heilongjiang Province.A teaching experiment was conducted by combining the quantitative and qualitative research methods for one semester.Multiple sources of data were collected and analyzed,including questionnaires,interviews and writing scores.At the end of the experiment,The data were analyzed to verify the effectiveness of narrow reading in English writing.We reached the following conclusions:1.The main difficulty in English writing is that most students don’t know how to express themselves in English,and most students lack writing confidence and interest.2.Senior high school students have enhanced their interest in English writing,especially the students with weak foundation.3.Narrow reading can help students improve their writing scores.The results reveal that experimental class get better scores at English writing.The study has a particular practical significance for the application of narrow reading in senior high school to a certain extent,But there are still some limitations in the study such as small sample size,short experiment duration,incomplete access to information and so on.Obviously more research is needed to deepen our knowledge in this particular field.
