False memory refers to the obvious difference between the individual memory and the fact of an event,which mistakenly considers the materials or events that have not been learned or have occurred.Source memory is the memory of the background of the event,which is the memory of time,space,location,perceptual characteristics,environmental information and so on.According to the source monitoring theory,when people recall information,they do not directly extract the abstract markers of memory sources,but evaluate or attribute the activated memory traces to specific sources through the decision-making process in memory.Therefore,sometimes we can improve the source monitoring to reduce the occurrence of false memory.Thus,the false memory and the source memory have a close relationship.This study starts with source memory,explores the false memory in the framework of source memory by using DRM paradigm.This study includes two experiments,the Experiment 1 is the relationship between association source and false memory,and the Experiment 2 is the relationship between organizational source and false memory.Experiment 1 is a single factor within-subjects design.The DRM vocabulary revises by Zhou Chu(2005)is used as the learning material.The independent variable is the association source(word color)which has three levels: red,green and blue;the dependent variable is the accuracy and reaction time of the association source memory,as well as the false memory performance and reaction time.Results show that the reaction time of red items is the shortest;the recognition rate of learning items is significantly higher than that of key bait words and irrelevant words;the recognition error rate of key bait words is positively correlated with the correct rate of learning items of red source.This means that the source memory advantage existed only in the red color background,that is,the associative source(color)has a limited effect on false memory,which is related to the source characteristics.Experiment 2 is a single factor within-subjects design.The DRM vocabulary revises by Zhou Chu(2005)is used as the learning material.The independent variable is the organizational source(word position)which has three levels: the top,middle and bottom of the screen;the dependent variable is the accuracy and reaction time of the association source memory,as well as the false memory performance and reaction time.Results only find that the recognition rate of learning items is significantly higher than that of key bait words and irrelevant words.It’s suggests that the effect of organizational origin(location)on word false memory is not significant,which may be related to the processing mechanism of the two kinds of memory.It can be seen from the above that item memory and source memory have different processing modes,which supports the dual processing model of source memory;due to the nature of materials,the source memory processing in this study mainly relies on visual perception processing,while false memory is triggered by semantic processing,so there is no interaction.This study can provide evidence for further clarifying the processing mechanism of false memory and source memory,and can also provide inspiration for reducing false memory and improving and optimizing individual memory quality in practice. |
