On The Development Logic And Modern Value Of Xunzi’s Study Of Rites

Rituals are a very important concept in Chinese traditional culture.As a representative of Confucianism in the pre-Qin period,Xunzi formed an ideological system with ritual as the core,which had a profound impact on the political system and the norms of human ethics in later generations.We should systematically understand the development logic of Xunzi’s study of rites and analyze its modern value,whether it is to explore the formation and development of rites,or to understand the social development of pre-qin dynasty and the thoughts of various scholars.This paper will be divided into four parts to explore the development logic and modern value of Xunzi’s Ritualism.The first part analyzes the causes and background of Xunzi’s thought of rites.This paper analyzes the emergence of "rites" and clarifies the reasons and conditions for the formation and development of rites.During the Warring States Period,the patriarchal clan system established by the Zhou Dynasty was destroyed by the expansion of the strength among the vassal states.The landlord class consolidated its rule by geography,and the trend of unification became more and more obvious.In the face of the theories of governing the country put forward by various schools of thought,Xunzi inherited from the Confucian system and formed the system of ritual learning.The second part introduces the content of Xunzi’s theory of rites.Xunzi put forward the concept of heaven and Taoism,which is different from his predecessors.He creatively took the nature of heaven as the starting point of the Confucian system of rites.From the difference between nature and man,it can be concluded that people can know the nature,which is not affected by human consciousness,and people and nature have different functions.Xunzi proposed that the theory of evil nature divides nature and false into two concepts that can be used together.People are born with desires,which must be corrected through the learning and practice of rites after birth.The Ming Dynasty divided the whole society into the ruling class,officials and courtiers and the common people.Rites and learning balanced the differences caused by class differences.Xunzi hoped that the ruler would attach importance to the role of the people and appoint people with high morality and a great deal of knowledge.The third part analyzes the development logic of Xunzi’s study of rites.First of all,the pre-Qin Confucianism made the ritual norms and human nature increasingly close.Secondly,the political demands of ritual learning gradually expanded.Finally,the ritual learning gradually became restrictive.The fourth part highlights the modern value of Xunzi’s Ritualism.Xunzi’s study of rites helps to improve citizens’ Moral Cultivation and promote the combination of moral education and legal education.Select the content in line with the development of the times,enhance national cultural confidence,and promote the development of contemporary Chinese practice.Socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era at a time when the Two Centenary Goals are converging.We should rationally treat Xunzi’s study of rites and select the content that is beneficial to the development of modernization.We should raise personal moral standards and build a great modern socialist country that is prosperous,strong,democratic,culturally advanced,harmonious,and beautiful.
