| Science education in basic education is more and more important with the appearance of novel corona-virus pneumonia in 2020.Students of primary and secondary school need to have scientific epidemic prevention and scientific dialectical thinking to examine all kinds of social phenomena caused by epidemic at home and abroad.The world’s scientific epidemic prevention has highlighted the auditory,visual,tactile and other modals of knowledge system in English teaching of basic education,as well as the educational guiding value of science education in English textbooks of senior high school for students to understand scientific and technological information.This thesis takes the science education in English textbook of senior high school from compulsory 1 to 5 published by People’s Education Press(PEP),Beijing Normal University Publishing Group(BNUPG)and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press(FLTRP)as research objects,classifies science education as four categories,namely science education of biological quality,science education of ecological environment quality,science education of hazard prevention and cognition education of science and technology frontier based on the relative research basis of Programme for International Student Assessment(PISA).The theories are multimodal discourse analysis(MDA),textbook evaluation theory,visual grammar(VG)and relation of image and text as the theoretical basis through text analysis.Based on the analysis of proportions,integration forms,meaning construction and the relation between image and text of science education from the perspective of multimodality in English textbook of senior high school,the results show that: 1)science education is distributed by "text +image";2)the representational meaning of images towards science education focuses on narrative representation;in interactive meaning of images towards science education,“offer” is more than “demand”,and it is helpful to form a good interaction with readers;in compositional meaning of images towards science education,the information value of visual image focuses on attracting readers’ attention through the center images;3)images are subordinate to the text,which plays a dominant role in the expression of science discourse.This thesis also does questionnaire survey for 228 English teachers from 7 urban districts and 300 students from 2 senior high schools in He’nan province to investigate and analyze their cognition,attitude and preference towards science education in English textbook of senior high school through the instrument of SPSS.The findings are: 1)teachers and students prefer to combine audios,videos,images,colors and texts to carry out science education,and think that multimodality is more conducive to cultivation of habit of information in science education and the improvement of science education efficiency;2)students hope to learn more knowledge of science and technology frontier systematically under multimodality.Based on research results above,this thesis puts forward following suggestions for the reform of compilation and science education for English textbook in senior high school in the future: 1)compiler should consider and adopt multimodality which teachers and students prefer and easy to accept,pay attention to the meaning construction and relation between image and text of science education;2)teachers should pay attention to the significance of science education in English textbook of senior high school and the development of the world’s science and technology frontier,enrich their teaching competence of multimodality to help students broaden their horizons of science education and cultivate their scientific cognitive ability;3)students should learn science education systematically to cultivate and improve their scientific literacy. |
