| Reading is the primary way for high school students to input English.The proportion of popular science articles in high school English reading is increasing.However,due to the particularity of its content,the domain of use and discourse function,popular English science is a challenging style for high school students to understand.Teaching popular English science reading is required to cultivate outstanding scientific and technological talents to innovate Chinese technology and cultivate students’ daily famous science quality.As one of the essential core qualities of students in compulsory education,scientific literacy ability requires students to study and apply science in a meaningful way.However,in today’s educational environment,scientific literacy ability,as the primary function and purpose of popular English science language learning,is often ignored or alienated,and students’ scientific literacy ability has not been fully cultivated.At the same time,the gap in students’ scientific literacy has become an urgent problem in foreign language teaching and research.American evaluation expert John Scriffin(1967)and American educator John Bloom were introduced into the teaching field and emerged in China in 2013.Procedural evaluation refers to the continuous evaluation of students’ performance in the learning process and mastery of the learning content through various evaluation means and methods to optimize the learning process and adjust teaching strategies to realize the value increment of the teaching process.Application-oriented professional personnel training emphasizes cultivating students’ comprehensive quality and professional core competence based on theory focusing on practical ability and paying attention to students’ social practice ability.Process evaluation emphasizes evaluation to promote learning,an integrated teaching evaluation model that helps improve students’ scientific literacy in popular science reading teaching of senior high school English.This paper mainly explores the effect of applying the teaching model of process evaluation to improve the scientific literacy of high school students through its advantages in promoting learning.Based on the theory of multiple intelligences,this study expounds on the influence of popular English science reading on scientific literacy.It explores the advantages and effects of the process evaluation teaching model on improving scientific literacy based on the theory of constructivism.In addition,using questionnaires and interviews as research tools,200 students in the first grade of a county middle school are selected as research objects to carry out two rounds of action research.The research questions are as follows:1.How can teachers apply the process evaluation model on teaching popular science reading in high school English?2.What is the impact of the process evaluation model on cultivating students’ scientific literacy in teaching popular English science reading?In the three-month action research,the researchers selected natural science and social science as the action research materials of popular science reading teaching,and implemented two rounds of process evaluation teaching based on the teaching design of reading circle.The main findings of the study are as follows: First,in the future teaching of English popular science reading,teachers can flexibly apply the process evaluation model by selecting rich popular science reading materials and adopting various reading circle teaching designs to improve students’ scientific literacy in English popular science reading learning.Second,through the implementation of three months of process evaluation teaching,students’ scientific literacy values have changed significantly,mainly reflected in the four scientific literacy factors(scientific interest,scientific method,scientific knowledge and scientific spirit)literacy values have improved compared with those before action research.Among the four factors of scientific literacy,the factors of scientific interest and scientific spirit have a significant effect,which is mainly due to the application of group evaluation model.It can be seen that high school English popular science reading teaching can effectively apply the process evaluation teaching mode to cultivate students’ scientific literacy.However,the study has shortcomings,such as the limited number of subjects and a short time teaching action research.Finally,the author puts forward some suggestions for further research.For example,researchers should expand the study population to ensure the data is more accurate and scientific. |
