Demotivation is one of the key factors that affect foreign language learners to learn foreign languages.At present,there are many researches on English learning motivation in academic circles,while there are just a few researches on the possible demotivation of English learners’ learning,especially vocational high school students.The research takes L County Vocational High School as an example,based on Gardner’s Attitude/Motivation Test Battery(AMTB)and D?rnyei’s three-level motivation model theory,using a combination of quantitative research and qualitative research,questionnaire and classroom observations were conducted on 261 students in L County vocational high school,and SPSS 22.0 software was used to analyze the data.Then,six students with demotivation were interviewed.According to the results of the questionnaire survey,there is a general phenomenon of demotivation in the process of vocational high school students’ English learning.The major influencing factors are reflected in the following seven factors: learner’s language attitude,learner’s confidence,parent’s tutorship,financial support,learning content,teacher’s responsibility,teacher’s basic teaching skills.Among them,learner’s language attitude,learner’s confidence and parent’s tutorship have greatly influenced the students? English learning motivation.The interview data further confirmed the quantitative results of questionnaire.Finally,based on the research results,this paper puts forward some suggestions to enhance the English learning motivation of vocational high school students from four aspects: students,teachers,parents,and learning content.
