Motivation, as a crucial factor influencing the second language learning achievement, has been studied by a large number of researchers at home and abroad. However, most of the researches concentrate on the positive side of motivation that facilitates the learning process, and less attention has been paid to the flip side, demotivation, which negatively influences learners’learning. English learning demotivation is a relatively common phenomenon among learners in most schools, especially for the students with weak English foundation in secondary vocational schools and its detrimental impact on their learning is also remarkable. Therefore, it is of great significance to study on learners’English learning demotivation and the potential demotivating factors, so as to find solutions to reduce learners’ demotivation and get them remotivated. In view of this, this study investigates into the learners’English learning demotivation in secondary vocational school. The research questions are:(1) Does the English learning demotivation exist among students in secondary vocational school? (2) If it does, what’s the general situation of students’ English learning demotivation? (3) What are the factors causing their English learning demotivation? The subjects are 206 students from Pingdingshan Institute of Education. All of them are required to complete a questionnaire on motivation intensity and a questionnaire on learners’English learning demotivation. The changes of motivation intensity between two different grades can prove the existence of English learning demotivation among students in secondary vocational school, the general situation of English learning demotivation can be reflected from the students’ perceived demotivation degree and the factors causing their demotivation can be extracted from the demotivation questionnaire. The collected data are analyzed with the help of SPSS 17.0 and major findings are made as follows:(1) English learning demotivation widely exists among students in secondary vocational school. (2) Most students are demotivated learners on English learning and more than half of the students hold medium-sized demotivation. (3) Five factors are extracted for indicating the students’English learning demotivation, which are failure experiences, loss of intrinsic motivation, teachers’ personality and competence, learning content and learning environment.According to the result findings, some suggestive measures are proposed to the English learners, teachers, learning content and learning environment respectively so as to help remotivate learners’ English learning in secondary vocational school. Limitations of this research and some suggestions for the future research are discussed at last.
