| This study aims to explore the reflective differences between novice English teachers and experienced English teachers in Guilin and to investigate how to help novice English teachers grow more quickly,based on Dewey’s reflective theory and the theory of teacher professional development.Teacher reflection,as an important way for teachers to gain professional development,has always been the attention in the field of education.At present,teacher reflection research mainly focuses on the characteristics,connotations,contents,relevant studies,status quo studies,and strategy studies.Among them,the majority of research subjects were novice teachers;and the research showed that seniority was one of the crucial factors affecting teacher reflection,and the reflection of novice teachers was different from that of experienced teachers.Therefore,through questionnaire and interview,52 novice teachers and 41 experienced teachers in Guilin were selected as research subjects,answering the following three questions:(1)What is the current situation of senior high school English teachers’ reflection?(2)What are the differences and similarities in teacher reflection between novice teachers and experienced teachers?(3)What are the causes of differences and similarities in teacher reflection between novice teachers and experienced teachers?Research findings showed that:(1)The current reflection of senior high school English teachers is positive,and the mean score is 3.8970.(2)There are significant differences in teacher reflection between novice teachers and experienced teachers(p<0.05).Among them,novice English teachers and experienced English teachers have significant differences in three aspects: practical reflection,affective reflection and classroom management reflection.However,there are no pronounced differences between novice teachers and experienced teachers in the following four factors: cognitive reflection,meta-cognitive reflection,critical reflection and moral reflection.(3)There are significantly reflective differences between novice teachers and experienced teachers on account of dissimilar investment,motivation,mindset of reflection and their different teaching experiences.However,teachers’ self-efficacy,professional attitude and professional ability are the three reasons that give rise to no significant difference in teacher reflection.Based on the existing problems and the above important findings,this study to further promote senior high school English teachers’ reflective ability and professional competence also puts forward some feasible suggestions from two aspects of novice teachers and experienced teachers,respectively.For novice teachers :(1)accelerate their growth period;(2)improve their sense of self-efficacy;(3)strengthen their teaching experiences;For experienced teachers:(1)establish a positive mindset;(2)raise their motivation in reflection;(3)increase their engagement in reflection... |
