A Study Of Plays And Drama Theory In The Journal Drama (1929-1931)

The Chinese society in the late 1920 s was in a period of extremely intense ethnic and class contradictions.After the failure of the Great Revolution,the social situation of China was in the turmoil of internal turmoil and foreign invasion.The progressive literati at that time realized the crisis facing the country,and "revolution" became an indispensable theme in their literary creation.Dramatic artists are not to be outdone,they continue to try to explore the development direction of Chinese modern drama through different paths.In the winter of 1928,Ouyang Yuqian was invited to establish a Drama Research Institute in Guangzhou.Hu Chunbing,Tang Huaiqiu and others went to Guangdong.In May of the following year,Drama,a drama magazine founded by the Institute of Drama,was launched.Drama published outstanding drama works,drama theories and critical articles of famous modern Chinese dramatists such as Ouyang Yuqian,Hu Chunbing,Zhao Rulin,Gu Zhongyi,Tang Huaiqiu and Ma Yanxiang in its three years of publication,which is a precious document for studying the development of modern Chinese drama in the late 1920 s.Through a comprehensive scan of the plays and theories of drama published in Drama magazine,this study explores the significance of the times and artistic charm contained in them,and explores the theoretical contribution and cultural value of Drama magazine.The first chapter is a comprehensive summary of the content of Drama magazine.Starting from the original documents,this paper sorts out the launch,development and ending of the magazine,systematically explains the column setting and editing strategies of Drama,and lays a foundation for the study of the plays and drama theories contained in Drama.The second chapter makes an in-depth study of the plays published in Drama.Combined with the cultural background of the publication of Drama,this paper analyzes the creative theme and aesthetic characteristics of the plays published in the magazine,and explores the revolutionary spirit contained in the plays published in the magazine.The third chapter discusses the drama theory contained in Drama.This paper analyzes the dramatists’ attitude and measures towards the reform of the old drama,their thoughts on the social function of drama,drama and propaganda,and the development of popular drama in the development of realistic drama,and their reference and absorption of foreign drama experience in the process of drama movement,in order to explore the theoretical value of Drama.The fourth chapter explains the contribution and value of Guangdong Drama Research Institute and Drama magazine.This paper analyzes the promoting role of drama activities of Guangdong Drama Research Institute in the development of modern drama movement and its enlightenment to Chinese contemporary drama,and clarifies the literary historical value and theoretical value of the magazine Drama.
