Diao Chan is a large-scale opera written by Huang Weiruo and Li Tiansheng and composed by Cui Bingyuan.The whole opera(including the prelude and the epilogue)has six acts.The whole opera tells the story of Diao Chan,a woman who deals with the tragic fate between Lu Bu and Dong Zhuo in order to repay her adoptive father for her upbringing.Finally,she quietly melts into the history of the river.The composer uses different musical structures,themes,harmonies,polyphony,orchetics,etc.throughout the work,closely combining the characters with the plot,and properly grasps the dramatic conflicts to vividly express the characters’ personalities,emotions,and plots.In addition,the Chinese Musical Instruments are added into the double pipe system of western music,which perfectly displays the characteristics of Chinese folk music.This thesis is divided into three chapters to analyze the opera Diao Chan.The first chapter first introduces the origin and development of opera,as well as the life and representative work of the composer Cui Bingyuan.Then the creation background of the opera is introduced,including character background,creation background and opera plot are briefly described.The second chapter first analyzes the musical structure of each scene in the whole work.Secondly,the author starts with the theme design,and makes a comparative analysis of the development techniques of the theme materials.Furthermore,the use of harmony and polyphony in opera is summarized.Finally,it summarizes the orchestration techniques used by the composer.The third chapter through the analysis of opera the author of the development of Chinese opera to think and summarize;Through the musical analysis of the opera Diao Chan,I hope I can make progress in the creative technique and musical expression in the future. |
