| With the development of economy and globalization, the contact between different cultures is more and more frequent, and the phenomenon of cultural mixing is more and more common.Although cultural mixings provide new ideas for product design and manufacturing, they can also lead to cultural conflicts. Therefore, how individuals deal with the cultural shock brought by globalization has become an urgent topic to be studied. The research shows that the higher the degree of identity to the culture, the stronger the psychological set,the weaker the cognitive motivation, the stronger the existential motivation, and the more likely the individual is to exclude the cultural mixing. In fact, attachment theory is also important for understanding individual behavior.Attachment theory is one of the most useful and generative frameworks for understanding individual differences.Studies have shown that attachment style is related to both stereotype and relationship function.Among them, anxious and avoidant attachment individuals are more likely than secure attachment individuals to judge stereotypes, accept external groups or show more negative performance in prejudice. Therefore, this study uses a bicultural priming paradigm to investigate whether anxious attachment and avoidant attachment individuals exhibit more cultural exclusion than secure attachment individuals. In Experiment 1,participants’ insecure attachment was measured using a questionnaire. In the experiment, the subjects were asked to make comments on the images of cultural mash-ups,and then fill in an intimate relationship experience scale. The results showed that the scores of two dimensions of attachment, anxiety and avoidance, were negatively correlated with product ratings.Experiment 2 primed anxiety, avoidance, and secure attachment styles by having participants recall and write about interpersonal experiences related to anxiety, avoidance, and security.Participants were then asked to rate the Starbucks ice cream and how cold or warm they felt about the United States. The results showed that compared with the secure attachment priming group, the anxious attachment priming group and the avoidant attachment priming group had lower product evaluations and a colder feeling towards the United States in general. In experiment 3,neutral priming group was added as baseline group on the basis of experiment 2.Neutral experiences were initiated by having the subjects recall and write about people they did not know well.In addition, the cultural mash-up product was changed from Starbucks ice dumplings to Mickey Mouse paper cuts.Experimental results show that compared with neutral start group participants, anxiety attachment start group of lower product evaluation subjects,to the overall feeling is more cold, avoid attachment product evaluation and start groups had no there was no significant difference on the degree the overall feeling changes in temperature, safety attachment start group were higher product evaluation, overall feeling warmer on the United States. In conclusion, this study shows that anxious attachment and avoidant attachment individuals exhibit more cultural exclusion than secure attachment individuals.. |
