Many researchers have explored the effect of task repetition on learners’ language acquisition,while most studies have focused on spoken language output.In the few studies on tasks related to learners’ writing output,learners’ short-term task performance has been the focus.This paper aims to explore the effect of task repetition in the same genre and in different genres on the accuracy,fluency,lexical complexity and linguistic structure complexity of writing output of Chinese English learners.Three research questions are asked:(1)What is the effect of task repetition in the same genre and in different genres on high school students’ writing accuracy,fluency,lexical complexity and linguistic structure complexity?(2)Can the influence of task repetition in the same genre and in different genres on the four dimensions of high school students’ writing output be transferred to new genre writing task?(3)When performing the new genre writing task,which kind of the genre task repetition will have a more positive impact on the four dimensions of students’ writing output?The results revealed that:(1)The repetition of tasks in the same genre significantly increased the complexity of linguistic structure,significantly decreased the accuracy,and had no significant impact on fluency and vocabulary complexity.Task repetition in different genres significantly improved the lexical complexity and linguistic structure complexity of senior high school students’ writing output,but had no significant influence on the accuracy and fluency.(2)The influence of task repetition in the same genre and in different genres on the accuracy and fluency of high school students’ writing output can be transferred to the new genre writing task;in implementing the writing task of new genre,both the same genre task repetition and the different genre task repetition have negative transfer on the aspects of lexical complexity and linguistic structure complexity in writing task,but for the same genre task repetition,the negative transfer of linguistic structure is more significant,and for different genre tasks repetition,the negative transfer of lexical complexity is more significant.(3)When performing the writing task of a new genre,the repetition of the same genre had a more positive effect on learners’ writing lexical complexity,but had no positive effect on linguistic structure complexity,accuracy and fluency.
