English textbooks are an important tool for students to acquire knowledge and one of the main media for disseminating Chinese and foreign culture.A good set of English textbooks can not only enable students to learn language knowledge,but also give students good cultural awareness.For this reason,this study selected the latest junior high school English textbook "New Objectives" published by the People’s Education Publishing House.A total of three volumes and five books are used as research objects.Compare and analyze Chinese and Western culture in the textbook,and it is intended to solve the following three problems: 1)What Chinese and Western cultural content is selected in the textbook? 2)What is the embodiment of the cultural consciousness of English Curriculum and Cultural Standards? 3)What are the cultural values of these textbooks?The study found the following conclusions:(1)The PEP(Go for it!)junior high school English textbook basically covers the cultural content required in the textbook,but the distribution is uneven,which is reflected in categories,quantity and presentation forms;(2)They are consistent with the definition of cultural consciousness in the subject matter,but the distribution between different aspects is slightly uneven;(3)The cultural values of Chinese and English presented in the textbook are different and have common aspects.In view of the above problems,this paper puts forward three suggestions for improvement.First,increase the content of Chinese culture and enrich the knowledge aspects involved in Chinese cultural content.The presentation form should be improved and distributed evenly.Second,enrich the form of cultural consciousness activities,so that students can understand and understand cultural consciousness more deeply.Third,sort out scientific,more balanced and comprehensive Chinese and British cultural values,actively absorb Western excellent culture,and spread traditional Chinese culture.
